What is it?
An unauthenticated public interface that retrieves federated web search previews and offers limited, labeled source-diversity critique.
Why was it created?
Make research discovery possible through a browser or eligible read-only connector without opening the owner's private administration tools.
Who is it for?
- Public web researchers
- Technical learners
- Read-only discovery and critique clients
How to use it
- Open Public Search Commons.
- Enter a non-sensitive topic (at least three characters).
- Inspect returned snippets, dates and source names.
- Use critique mode to check preview diversity, then follow authoritative sources yourself.
Available controls or interactions
Public search form and limited read-only GET results. Queries may be processed by external search providers.
How do you know you succeeded?
The interface returns a usable source preview or an explicit limit/error state. This is discovery success, not verified correctness.
What should you see?
Links and snippets from third-party sources; critique may flag source diversity concerns without guaranteeing accuracy.
Play it through your mind
Given two conflicting hypothetical snippets, identify date, origin, independent corroboration and what source to open next.
One search preview says a software version is current; another shows a different version from last year. Which is more trustworthy?
Suggested thought move: Compare publication dates, official release pages and independent current documentation.
Reveal the reasoned answer (spoiler)
The previews alone cannot settle it; inspect the official, dated release record and assess source freshness.
Illustrative research scenario, not a live query result.
For read-only AI clients
GET only approved search/critique routes subject to quotas; read-only does not authorize unrestricted crawling or private-network scanning.
Public GET/HEAD resources:
AI responses must distinguish proposed actions and local reasoning from actually executed browser actions; no owner credentials or private APIs are provided.
Errors, limits and privacy
If it fails
Search can return no results, rate-limit or become unavailable. Narrow the topic or retry later.
Data handling
Never enter credentials or sensitive search terms; aggregated search queries may be forwarded to external providers. No user-private search history is published.
Known limitations
- This is not an unrestricted remote web crawler or website-testing browser.
- Results and previews may be incorrect, outdated or misleading.
- A source-diversity check is not an independent fact check.
- Query limits and upstream availability apply.
